Meet Syndicat Potentiel Strasbourg, one of France’s longest-running artist-led associations still active today.

Founded in Strasbourg in 1992 by a group of students from what is now HEAR, Le Syndicat Potentiel has built its work around an expansive understanding of art: one that stays open to social questions, spatial transformation, and new forms of intervention in the world around it.

For STARTUP, Le Syndicat Potentiel is our cultural partner in Strasbourg and a key local case study. Based in a reused former industrial building in a peripheral faubourg district, it offers a rich context for exploring culture-based urbanism, local rootedness, and artist-led transformation. Through the research and upcoming trial, the project will examine how this space can deepen its relationship with the neighbourhood through exhibitions, residencies, workshops, seminars, and collective creation bringing together artists, researchers, and local communities.
