Did you know that the STARTUP Local Cultural Praesidia Map is live on our wesbite?
Small, artist-run cultural spaces are at the heart of creative placemaking. But most of them never appear on official cultural maps. So we made our own.
Using a custom API-mapping tool built on OvertureMaps and 200+ open digital databases, our research teams across 7 European cities identified and manually verified hundreds of independent cultural venues, community initiatives and creative hubs — what we call “local cultural praesidia”: the finest-grained contact points between cultural and creative professionals and local communities.
The map is a resource for researchers, local communities, policy makers, and anyone who wants to understand (and advocate for) the cultural life of their neighbourhood alike!
